A large percentage of our builds has coloured gel coat. We always highly recommend to do a painted deck if you choose a dark coloured gel coat for hot climate where the sun is strong. The painting process is costly and a large investment. Whether you choose a painted deck or not, we recommend to do a Ceramic Coating to keep the glow in the colour longer.
Coating for car paint is nothing new and has been around for a long time. We have played with it before, but its first now we see the advantages clearly also for gel coat. In April we coated a couple of 29 Sports to see how they lasted through the season. Now we can see the result and the owners experience.
The conclusion is that the coating not only protects the boat from the sun, but dirt, dust and salt is easier to flush with fresh water the normal.
We recommend CQuartz UK. This is how the manufacture described their product:
Based on the original CQuartz technology. CQuartz UK was developed in the United Kingdom for use in cold, damp climates where most nanotechnology coatings typically struggle. A new fast flashing carrier was used to enhance curing in difficult conditions, and the silica-quartz content was increased to a scarcely believable 70% creating an even harder and purer glass layer. These enhancements allowed CQ UK to be easily applied in temperatures as low as 41-degrees Fahrenheit (5-Degrees Celsius), with even higher levels of beauty and protection, making it the unofficial pinnacle of our consumer CQuartz line.
